How to Press Play - the Importance of Active Play

Why do we need to play?  Or maybe the question should be: Do we need to play? The answer, however you phrase the question is a resounding YES!

Play has been called the business of children, unfortunately, the structure and demands of modern Canadian life may be engineering active play out of our children’s lives. Even at school, recess is increasingly being threatened.  Researchers agree the decline of play over the past 50 years has been consistent and substantial in having a negative impact on children’s mental and physical health.  

In this workshop we will delve into the history, the science and the methodology of play. Participants will not only leave with an understanding of what they are doing when they play but they will see through simple observation, what we are learning while we play.
